Regular price $5,400.00 Save $-5,400.00DESCRIPTION
With recast aluminium disc manufactured from the original Rolls-Royce Merlin engine casing of Hurricane P3708 recovered from Foulness Island, Essex.
Zero West are proud to release a new pilot watch to commemorate the ‘Hardest Day’ in the Battle of Britain: the H1 Hurricane P3708 edition. Taking design queues from the MkI Hurricane slip turn indicator dial, this watch is an iconic addition to our aviation collection.
H1 watch conveys the simplicity of the classic avionic dials found in the Hurricane cockpit. Housed in a precision billet machined bead blasted case and ZW DSL lugs is a distinct black dial with Iconic L&R markings, period indexes, clearly defined avionics style hands and a striking red sweep hand. The classic dial is framed by a simple matt black bezel ring and the hands and dial are coated with SuperLuminova X1 pigment. The dial also references the date of Sergeant Pilot Alexander Girdwood’s dogfight above the Essex coastline on 18th August 1940, The Hardest Day, and the lat-long coordinates of Foulness Island where Hurricane P3708 was recovered. The back of the watch showcases a disc of the original metal recast and machined from the original Rolls-Royce Merlin engine of P3708. This precious casting is protected by a reverse printed sapphire crystal that records the plane and Churchill’s famous words.
The watch is powered by a Swiss ETA 2824 automatic movement, thus ensuring it never misses a beat. The brass finished locking crown is a replica of the joystick gun-platform fire button, a feature once so familiar to those brave young RAF pilots during the Battle of Britain. A new custom Zero West aerospace grade fluroelastomer rubber strap with bead blasted buckle completes the ensemble.
